Bringing woman filmmakers from archives to screens
Invisible Women is an archive activist film collective which champions the work of woman and filmmakers with marginalised identities from the history of cinema through screenings, events and editorial.
Since our first event in 2017, we have screened film programmes sourced from collections around the world at cinemas, festivals and galleries across the UK. We have presented events and screenings with partners including Edinburgh Art Festival, Flatpack Birmingham, A Kind of Seeing, CinemaAttic, Cinema Rediscovered, London Short Film Festival, Glasgow Film Festival, HOME Manchester, EYE Filmmuseum Amsterdam, Balkan Can Kino Athens, Sheffield DocFest, Edinburgh International Film Festival and BFI Southbank.
In 2021, we were invited to be part of Berlinale Talents. In 2022 we presented two shorts programmes, Touched and After Hours, co-curated with T A P E Collective which toured venues across the UK.
Alongside our screenings, we research and write extensively about women in film history and send out a monthly newsletter. We regularly participate in Q&As, panels and podcasts, give presentations, and deliver education workshops for schools and universities. We also serve as archive consultants for film projects and are currently developing short film projects as co-producers.

Meet the Team
Camilla Baier, Co-founder & Curator
Camilla is a programmer, curator and researcher based in Edinburgh.
Originally from Berlin, Camilla first came to Scotland in 2012 to study Journalism & Film at the University of Stirling. Alongside her BA she worked as a freelance art critic reviewing exhibitions across the UK. In 2017 she completed an MSc in Film Exhibition & Curation at the University of Edinburgh, while also gaining experience at a variety of arts organisations including the Edinburgh Art Festival. She developed a specialism in visual art, working first as a gallerist in Scotland, before spending two years managing a contemporary art gallery in Mexico City and Mérida. In 2020 she moved back to Edinburgh to work as the Programme Coordinator at INDY Cinema Group, where she curated programmes for independent cinemas across the UK.
In 2023 she decided to become a freelance film programmer, researcher and consultant, lending her expertise to various creative projects such as the Glasgow Film Theatre, CinemaAttic and the Confederation of Arthouse Cinemas.
Rachel Pronger, Co-founder & Curator
Rachel is a writer, curator and editor based between Berlin and the UK.
Rachel grew up in Bradford, West Yorkshire. After completing a BA in English Literature & History at the University of York, she moved to London, where she worked for leading arts organisations including the Royal Court Theatre, the British Film Institute and Picturehouse Cinemas. In 2016 she completed an MSc in Film, Exhibition and Curation at the University of Edinburgh, before taking further roles at Edinburgh Film Festival and Film Hub Scotland. She was Producer of the 2018 edition of Alchemy Film & Arts Festival, where she has since worked as Senior Programmer and now as a Trustee. Between 2018-2020, she was a Film Programme Coordinator at Tyneside Cinema in Newcastle. She is currently Documentary Programmer for Aesthetica Short Film Festival, and a Short Film Programme Advisor for both BFI London Film Festival and Sheffield DocFest.
Rachel’s writing has been published in outlets such as Sight & Sound, The Guardian, MUBI Notebook, Elephant Art, Little White Lies and BBC Culture. Alongside curation and writing, she also works as a script reader and editor for production companies and funders including the BFI, Channel 4 and Film London, and is currently developing short film projects as a producer.
Lauren Clarke, Curator
Lauren Clarke is film programmer, curator and researcher based in Glasgow.
After studying Cinema Studies and Political Science at the University of Toronto she moved to Edinburgh to complete her postgraduate degree in Film, Exhibition and Curation. Since then she has worked as a researcher for BBC documentary Antonia Bird: From EastEnders to Hollywood and numerous festivals including Toronto International Film Festival, BFI London Film Festival, Glasgow Film Festival, Sheffield Doc Fest and Aesthetica Short Film Festival. She has served as a jury member for Scottish Mental Health Arts Festival and London Feminist Film Festival. Currently she is the documentary Programming Associate at TIFF, programmes the experimental strand at Aesthetica Short Film Festival and is a member of Invisible Women Collective.
